A note about our planned live shows reviewing 'Let's Kill Hitler' for Doctor Who: Podshock and our ongoing review of Torchwood: Miracle Day ('Immortal Sins') for Hitchhiker's Guide to British Sci-Fi

The Oncoming Storm: Postponing Live Review Shows for Sunday, August 28th -

Due to the oncoming storm that is Hurricane Irene which is predicted hit here on Sunday. Not knowing if we will have power, let alone internet, it may be best to postpone our two scheduled live review shows for that day. Doctor Who: Podshock and Hitchhiker's Guide to British Sci-Fi were both originally scheduled for a live-over-the-net review (of Doctor Who and Torchwood: Miracle Day respectively) on Sunday will be postponed to the following Sunday (4 September 2011) when we will double up and review two episodes of each series on each respective show to catch up.

Selling Motion Comics

Posted: 27 Aug 2011 07:50 AM PDT

While BBC America viewers can see a world exclusive Doctor Who Motion Comic - starring Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) designed to bridge the ad break and tonight's episode Let's Kill Hitler - there's a price to pay for it.

According to AdAge.com The 60 second clip, sponsored by telecommunications giant AT&T, will feature a chase sequence deemed too expensive to shoot in live action and is directed by Hitler's director Richard Senior.

What's been branded as 'the ultimate DVR buster' by Mark Gall, BBC America's exec VP-media sales, the vignette is just one of a number of 'Hybrid Commercials' currently being used by Ad Executives to integrate their products with your favourite shows.

Fans of Desperate Housewives were treated to Spirit embarrassingly shoe-horning in their cell phones into specifically shot mini-episodes of the show featuring cast members and made by the Desperate staff.

For Let's Kill Hitler AT&T wanted to incorporate its slogan 'rethink possible' into the premiere episode. So the corporation along with its media agency, the BBC America ad sales team and Steven Moffat & Richard Senior created the 'Motion Comic Sequence' along with Double Barrel Motion Labs (Torchwood: Web of Lies) to work on those costly live action scenes in an affordable way.

Mark Gall comments:

"It hits all those key things AT&T needs. You'll even hear the Doctor say things like 'Anything is possible' on the series because it's part of his character, part of how people talk about him during the episodes."

Which is rather depressing.

However the telecommunications company's contribution won't be noted in perpetuity. For any future digital media release the company's logo will be removed from the vignette.

The whole thing is reminiscent of a one liner from Karen Gillan's appearance on The Late Late Show where host Craig Ferguson joked about being done with stuff like Doctor Who once other people liked it.

Is this just a necessary evil for a show seeking wider audiences in the States and therefore should be seen as the future and not a threat to our paternal love for the show or are BBC America damaging the show's cult appeal by making it so brand friendly?

Will there be a point where we'll all get just a little bit Who'd out by it? Its not as if the BBC haven't been selling the show anyway and anyhow – what do you think?

What Will the Future Bring?

Posted: 27 Aug 2011 07:21 AM PDT

Tonight on both sides of the Atlantic, Doctor Who returns to our screens with six brand spanking new episodes guaranteed to make your eyeballs bleed through sheer joy!

But, there are plenty of things that need to be answered in order for everyone to feel entirely pleased. Looking at website Holymoly.com, they have created a list of what they believe should be addressed for things to be tied up neatly.

First of all you've got the Silence, nasty big old aliens that clearly haven't been killed off as we see them in modern day America in The Impossible Astronaut. What are their plans and what exactly does the phrase "Silence will fall" actually mean?

The Doctor now knows that he has an impending date with death in the shape of a mysterious astronaut but who exactly is it that shoots that fatal shot? River, the Doctor himself? Who is the mysterious shape hiding behind the wooden shack when all this happens (watch the scene where old Canton turns up at the beginning closely to see a shadowy figure hiding behind the small shack in the background)? Will the Doctor be able to get out of this one?

And what exactly is going to happen with River now that we know her origins? Hopefully we're going to see her growing up and learn more about why she was arrested and who she killed but how long will The Grand Moff make us wait for this?

On top of these burning issues, we also still want to find out about the clerics and Madame Kovarian and exactly why they're fighting an "endless war" against the Doctor. Looking further back to Series 5, who caused the TARDIS to explode? Who was the mysterious voice declaring "Silence will fall"? And most importantly, did Rory and Amy ever get the Doctor to get rid of their bunk beds?

Hopefully, all should start being revealed tonight, possibly not the bunk bed issue though.

If you missed Let's Kill Hitler, don't forget that you can catch it on BBC iPlayer!
