| Posted: 10 Aug 2010 08:30 AM PDT Companions of the Doctor, it seems, are just like buses. You wait for one to come along and then…well you know the rest. This month is one of those moments as not only do we have the return of Vislor Turlough but also Aussie loudmouth Tegan Jovanka!
Cobwebs is a twisty wisty timey wimey affair which starts off with Nyssa, fifty years after she left the Doctor and his friends to stay on Terminus. Rather than dying there (as was predicted by Tegan) she cured the disease that she set out to and then left to help the rest of the Universe. For the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough events are much fresher. Nyssa has only recently left them and they haven't properly adjusted to her leaving yet. This is where the play is really smart. As a listener, one really starts to appreciate things from Nyssa's viewpoint as we too have not had this line up in the TARDIS for a fair few decades. Whereas the Doctor and co slip into events like nothing has changed (and for them it really hasn't) Nyssa has different viewpoints now and looks at the world in a different way, which is exactly what many fans who watched their televised adventures in the eighties will now be experiencing. Whilst the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough stayed the same in their remaining adventures, we got older and saw many different aspects of life and what it has to offer.
And the adventure itself? Whilst it's not the most original play that Big Finish has ever produced, there's still plenty to enjoy and get to grips with. The cliff-hanger for part one sets up a big mystery that needs solving and the resolution to it is very clever. Some portions of the play have similarities to 2010'a The Beast Below, where memory wiping is used to facilitate better workers. In a nice twist, Cobwebs takes this a step further and deals with the effect this has on the subjects mentally as well as physically. Will Cobwebs feel like a fresh start? In a word, no. But that's not what it sets out to do. It's a healthy bowl of nostalgia with some character development sprinkled over the top for additional effect that will leave you hungry for more. Next up on the tick list, the return of Adric… Cobwebs is available now on DVD and MP3 download direct from www.bigfinish.com!

| Torchwood Smile Time Happy Hour! Posted: 10 Aug 2010 08:03 AM PDT Sex! Death! Murder! But lets not forget the laughs. Everyone's favourite knock-a-bout laugh riot Torchwood will continue to provide japes and guffaws for the news series according to His Mightiness Russell T. Davies.
Davies also let slip that the plot for the series wasn't originally envisioned for the show:

| Posted: 10 Aug 2010 06:29 AM PDT Warbling superstar Katherine Jenkins has finished filming her role in this years Doctor Who Christmas Special.
Earlier this year Jenkins revealed that actor Danny Horn would also be appearing in the Yuletime fun and he too has also been busy tweeting:
Production has finish on the episode which now goes into the lengthy process of editing, adding special effects, taking them away, losing the footage, finding it again and digitally inserting images of Melkur in the background of each shot before the show is ready to air Christmas Day. In her first acting role the singer joins Sir Michael Gambon (The Singing Detective) in what has been called 'a clever twist on A Christmas Carol.' Now I know in the past many of you have seen these articles as a flimsy excuse to ogle at more pictures of the oh-so-sexy Katherine Jenkins. Well, I have insisted to my editor so that we do not offend our faithful readers and to show that we do not favour certain stories because the person of interest happens to be cute, that a picture of a Turnip be added to the article. So if there is a picture of Kathrine attached, you will know who is responsible the rampant lusting that goes on at Kasterborous. | Posted: 09 Aug 2010 10:00 PM PDT Big "awwwww" of the week moment goes to a versatile and talented group of youngsters in Swindon who have staged a Doctor Who themed history play for the town to enjoy. The street theatre project, run by Swindon charity Reach Inclusive Arts and the Shop, oversaw the children write a script, design and make props and then act out their own show, based on Doctor Who. It focussed on a journey through Swindon's past and some of its areas of interest visted by the Doctor, played by Lydan Stevens and his assistant, played by Katie Wheaton (although we don't know if she was playing Rose Tyler; Billie Piper is a Swindon lass!) Lydan commented:
Project manager for the performance, Helen Whelehan, spoke a little about the idea behind the performance:
A hearty well done goes out to the children who put in a massive effort to make all this happen. Now the only question left to answer is: is it canon? (Via Swindon Advertiser)

| Posted: 09 Aug 2010 06:59 PM PDT It hasn't been two months since Doctor Who's 31st season (ahem) went out with a bang, and already props and costumes from the Platinum Age are in a museum! Featured artifacts spur from Victory of the Daleks and The Time of Angels and include a Weeping Angel and and one of those gorgeous Ironside Daleks! Don't blink – you might be exterminated! Or served tea. Also available for your viewing pleasure are two Amy Pond costumes and a Winston Churchill suit. I do hope they add the Doctor's costume to the collection soon; I've been itching to try on that bow tie! Of course, I'd have to bribe the security guards. I hope they like poetry. Said Emma Johnstone, tenant liason and marketing manager:
By the way, there are also other Doctor Who items, like the Ood and the Judoon, on display at Doctor Who Up Close in Cardiff, which has been open since December 2005! Thus explaining that "thousands of fans each year" bit. If you're in Cardiff anytime this year between 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM, feel free to stop by! For more information including ticket rates, click here. In related exhibition news, another Ironside Dalek is now up for display via a poster on my bedroom wall. Thanks, Doctor Who Magazine! In a landmark trilogy that Doctor Who fans have been waiting many, many years for, the old TARDIS team of the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough are back and it's like they've never been away.
And how does the team work together after all these years? To coin a phrase, "it's like riding a bicycle". The four actors slip effortlessly back into their roles, Janet Fielding and Mark Strickson especially rebound well off one another in their initial slanging matches over distrust. It was always an interesting point that was never brought up, that in between Enlightenment and The King's Demons, Tegan's doubts about Turlough seem to disappear. This is a man who did try and kill the Doctor a fair few times after all and so her comments seem fairly valid. This is addressed in Cobwebs when the pair start agreeing with one another over their continued right to carry on living when beings look set to finish them off. Tegan does nicely remark to Nyssa that Turlough's "on probation".
