| Posted: 10 Dec 2010 03:09 AM PST Accessories are important. Imagine Turlough without his school tie, the Fourth Doctor without his scarf, Matt and Pat without their cool bow ties and the seventh Doctor without his brolly. Being human and stuck in one place in time and space means that we may have a little less freedom in our choices but one great place to look for additions to your manner of dress is Annabel Graham's Wearable Whovian Jewellery. Annabel is a one woman producer of items that are inspired from the series, including such novel ideas as a pendant in the shape of a man who happens to have two hearts, bow tie and fez charms and even a necklace that when decoded spells out "Chameleon Circuit" the broken component on the TARDIS that would allow the TARDIS to be as shrouded as the necklace's hidden message. Annabel also takes inspiration from the excellent work of the Doctor Who design team, such as her Eye Candy item, which pulls from the new multicolured Dalek design. Other items that have no copyright, such as the police box shape the TARDIS has been stuck in or a charm that states "I love Who" with a heart image (two, naturally) replacing the word love, allow for even more Who centric pieces. BBC copyright forbids her from using most of the iconic images from the series, but that means that the ingenuity of the jewelry is higher not lower, as Annabel must think out side the box, as she herself tells Kasterborous:
Working from her garage in Hamilton, New Zealand, Annabel works with a variety of metals, with some pieces being available in such choices as sterling silver or bronze, the whole operation has a good sense of professionalism to it which it should, as Annabel had studied the jewelery making craft at Wintec school the skill shows in the variety and quality of her work. Anabel makes her products at times from items that happen to be on hand and this has lead to more creativity and spontaneity then might be possible otherwise. The fact that at time the designs of the pieces are effected by the very metal they are made with speaks volumes about how the design travels from Anabel's initial paper sketches to the finished product. Professionally Annabel has worked in the commercial embroidery and signage design fields, but the skills she learned while getting her Bachelor's in 3D design really comes into play with her jewelery work, such as studying Edward De Bono's teachings on lateral thinking as it relates to design, something that means much more thinking outside the box to solve problems, even if the particular box is a Sterling Silver police box charm.
Doctor Who has always been known for the loyalty and creativity of it's fans, and the success of the current incarnation as well as instant worldwide communication such as the internet has allowed such creative endeavors to become popular rather then remaining underground, but at the end of the day it is all about love for a television series and the inspiration that comes from it. For Annabel Graham, the Doctor has touched her life just as much as some of the people the Doctor saves and interacts with on television and this is the real Doctor Who. The one that was intended to teach people just as they intended forty seven years ago, maybe not quite as planned, but in ways never foreseen in the sixties.
Annabel is one of many Doctor Who artists, writers and creators that uses her love of the show to meld fantasy into a little bit of our real world, but as Annabel herself with tell you, her work is created to be "Proud to wear in public" and her love of the show comes out when she talks about what the Doctor and his journeys mean to her, her work and her life.
Roll on Annabel. Now, as you're good with metal, howabout making me a 'really works' TARDIS key…? Find out more abotu Annabel's Wearable Whovian Jewellery at www.whovianjewellery.com!

| The TARDIS Returns to Portmeirion Posted: 10 Dec 2010 12:35 AM PST The TARDIS has materialised in Portmeirion for the hoilday season. This marks the first time the craft has returned to the village in Gwynedd, North Wales since the 1976 Tom Baker serial The Masque of Mandragora - where the village doubled for San Martino circa the fifteenth century. Fans of British TV will also know that Portmeirion appeared as The Village in the cult TV series The Prisoner in 1967-1968. The Doctor's faithful vessel will be staying in the region unti the 3rd January. Portmeirion estates manager Meurig Jones said:
The idea to display the TARDIS came when Jones was contacted by the BBC's events manager. He added:
For more information; the Portmeirion site contains a detail breakdown of the filming of the Baker classic as well as clips from the episodes. (via Daily Post)

| Christmas Special Clips on BBC Promo Posted: 09 Dec 2010 10:16 PM PST The latest one minute promo for the BBC's Christmas line up has been released, with a heavy focus on Doctor Who as one of the Christmas Day events! Featuring a myriad of other shows (other shows?…OTHER SHOWS?!) such as Eastenders and Casualty, Doctor Who is shown as one of the "big players" of the Beeb's chrimbo line up. Whilst the clips they've included don't show any new scenes from A Christmas Carol, they're certainly enough to get you excited for Christmas Day! The Doctor Who Christmas Special has been a huge part of the BBC's 25th December broadcasts since 2005 and each year has given us a fantastic festive episode with our favourite Time Lord. This is the first special to not feature David Tennant since the series' return but it's looking to outdo all of them in one swoop and the plot sound absolutely brilliant! Tune in on Christmas Day to find out what trouble the Eleventh Doctor and his friends have got themselves into this year! A Christmas Carol will be broadcast on 25th December 2010 in the UK and the following day in the USA. Meanwhile if you're looking forward to A Christmas Carol don't forget to take part in our Christmas Doctor Who Poll! | ||

| Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol Blu-Ray and DVD Release Date Posted: 09 Dec 2010 09:23 PM PST
Even though we are still a couple weeks away from the airing of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol (coming to BBC (6pm) and BBC America (9pm) on the 25th of December), we already have a release date for the special on Blu-ray and DVD. Just in time for Gallifrey 22, the special is slated for release on the 15th of February. So much for giving it as a Valentine's Day gift. Along with the special, the accompanying 'Doctor Who: Confidential' on it and 'Doctor Who at the Proms 2010' will be included as bonus material. We can also assume that the special will be available on iTunes the day after it is shown on BBC America, so figure on it being there on Boxing Day.
| Posted: 09 Dec 2010 08:45 PM PST Tomorrow (December 11th) will see a feast of festive music being performed by the Poringland Singers in Norwich at St Peter Mancroft Church. What does this have to do with Big Finish, you ask? Well, part of the concert will be a public performance of Christmas Time, a song specially composed by our very own musical maestro Jamie Robertson and performed by the Poringland Singers on this month's Eighth Doctor release, Relative Dimensions. The A Merry Little Christmas concert will feature the Singers, Brundall Primary School and Jenny's Singing Angels and will include White Christmas, music from The Polar Express and many other festive treats, and costs £5 (£2.50 children, and including a mince pie and drink!), in aid of Norwich Door to Door. Directions to the church can be found at the church website. Jamie will be around after the concert for a chat, and tickets will be available on the door, or by calling Norwich Door-to-Door on 01603 776 735 or Poringland Singers on 01603 412 420. | ||

| Posted: 09 Dec 2010 06:09 PM PST Peter Jackson's latest film, The Hobbit is set to start filming soon and casting is now being announced with the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy, confirmed as Radagast the Brown. Whilst Sylvester let this information slip a little while back, this is now the official announcement. Jackson directed the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, which ran from 2001-2003 and now has the job of bringing this prequel to life. For those who aren't familiar with the plot, it goes a little something like this:
The description of McCoy's character that he'll be playing is:
What's interesting to note is that Radagast appears in Lord of the Rings but is only mentioned in The Hobbit, so quite how big Sylvester's role will be is anyone's guess. However, well done to the fella for landing the part in the first place!
