| Doctor Who is “Harrowing” Posted: 25 Feb 2011 07:08 AM PST Matt Smith has tantalisingly stated that the sixth series of Doctor Who that is shortly due to air will be "harrowing" for the crew of the good ship TARDIS. When the show returns in the spring, the Doctor and his friends will be facing a huge array of monsters and will have to battle for their personal relationships as well. Smith commented:
The newest series of Doctor Who will also feature an exciting new menace for the Doctor to deal with and the buzz circulating is that it will be one of the scariest that the Doctor has ever come up against, as Smith confirmed:
This year we will also learn more about River Song and who she really is, Matt has promised fans that the reveal will be a truly satisfying one but an important question is will we see the return of any old foes? The show's producers are keeping tight lipped but seem to be leaning towards newer monsters rather than older ones. However, it would not be a huge surprise if an army of Daleks or Cybermen turned up at some point! Doctor Who will be returning to BBC One and BBC America this Spring!
| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 05:23 AM PST Those of a celebrity presenter induced nervous disposition might want to look away as it seems every one's favourite/most hated guest star James Corden may be returning in Episode 12 of Season 6. According to What's on TV Corden, will reprise his role as sofa lookalike Craig Owens from last seasons The Lodger with filming due to start as early as next week. Corden has made no bones about the fact he would love to return to the show telling the magazine that:
Corden has drawn criticism mostly due to over-exposure since the floptastic Corden and Horne failed to ignite anyone's imagination. Coupled with this are his appearances on the They Think its All Over clone (itself a formula so generic its model dates back to biblical times when Moses invited the Jews to guess the missing words in the Commandments), the sports based quiz A League of their Own and his dignity shedding Glamour Awards feud with Sir Patrick Stewart (X-Men) which can be boiled down to "you're old" "yeah but you're fat". As guest appearances go Corden delivered what as expected of him for The Lodger - a warm, likable charm that he honed on the inexplicably popular Gavin & Stacey – so it will be interesting to see what develops from the friendship between him and the Doctor set up in that episode. Hopefully it will see this very ordinary character thrown into some extraordinary situations giving Corden a chance to play something different this time.

| Posted: 25 Feb 2011 04:00 AM PST Hot on the heels of the Nebula nomination this week, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films have announced the nominations for their annual Saturn Awards. This year, the 37th ceremony sees just one nomination for the Doctor Who franchise: A Christmas Carol, broadcast by BBC America, is listed in the Best Television Presentation. The episode, penned by Steven Moffat, is up against his other success of 2010 co-created with Mark Gatiss, Sherlock, which was broadcast on PBS. Other nominees include NBC's Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special, AMC's The Walking Dead, and two series from new Torchwood co-producer Starz, The Pillars of the Earth and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. The Saturn Awards will take place this June in Burbank, California. Last year, Torchwood: Children of Earth won the award for Best Presentation on Television, which beat fellow nominee Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead. | Acid Bath Murderer Trailer - 25 February 2011 Posted: 25 Feb 2011 02:58 AM PST Just before performing as John George Haigh, writer and actor Nigel Fairs had an accident on his bike that left him with a scar that matched the one on Haigh's face exactly. That's just one of the spooky coincidences behind the scenes of In Conversation With An Acid Bath Murderer, a chilling Drama Showcase production about the real-life serial killer. The audio production, which is released in May, also stars Louise Jameson, Richard Franklin and Suzanne Procter. The trailer is now available as a special podcast. Please be aware that it is unsuitable for young people under the age of 15. Download Podcast Here | ||

| Craig Owens returns to Doctor Who Posted: 25 Feb 2011 02:40 AM PST The BBC have officially confirmed today that the actor James Corden will be reprising his role as Craig Owens - the Doctor's landlord from last year's episode The Lodger.Though unconfirmed, this is believed to be for a forthcoming episode to be filmed that has been written by Gareth Roberts, who also penned Craig's previous appearance in the series. Roberts was a guest at last weekend's Gallifrey One convention, and during a live commentary for The Lodger was reported as saying that his new episode would begin filming "in a week" (i.e. from next week). "I work in a shop, now." The news comes after a tweet was posted yesterday unofficially revealing that Corden would be coming back to Doctor Who: "They're filming Doctor Who with James Corden the whole 2nd week of March on my street. Just saying." | ||

| Posted: 24 Feb 2011 11:48 PM PST Remember that famous Doctor Who Experience concept image we sometimes include with our relevant articles featuring the Doctor and his TARDIS surrounded by all his incarnations' costumes (yes, that one up there)? We can officially show you a fragment of the real, non-concept, living version of that section of the much-anticipated Doctor Who exhibit! Hold on – living? An exhibit that's alive? We must be suggesting the existence of Autons. And a gallery at Monsters and Critics certainly isn't arguing with us. While these 24 images are mostly just the same real-Matt-Smith-next-to-dummy-Matt-Smith over and over again with a few different camera angles and poses, it's still pretty easy to notice that something's not quite right with the statue version of the Doctor. It seems to have a high potential of being controlled by the Nestene Consciousness, programmed to spring into motion just when attendance to the Experience reaches its peak. We have to say though, it's not a very good Auton. What was going on with Matt Smith's face the day the Nestene stole and copied him? Or is this a glimpse at Matt Smith from the future, after he's aged at least twelve years, and not taken off his costume? Perhaps this is our first indication that Smith's tenure as the best character ever will outlive even Tom Baker's (and almost double it). Here's an identical link to the Monsters and Critics gallery; make sure you click on it if you want to be intrigued. Or you can just go see the Matt Smith Auton yourself at the Doctor Who Experience exhibition in London, which has been open since last Sunday. | ||
| Posted: 24 Feb 2011 08:58 PM PST Doctor Who: Worlds in Time is the title of the joint project between BBC Worldwide and game developer Three Rings Design which has been announced in advance of the San Francisco Game Developers Conference (GDC) next week. Despite various attempts at PC and console games, this will be the Doctor's first multiplayer online game and for the first time ever, players from around the world will be able to follow in the footsteps of the eccentric and brilliant Doctor by travelling through time and space, exploring new worlds and encountering many alien races, both friend and foe! Doctor Who: Worlds in Time allows players to enter the TARDIS and be set a challenge by the mysterious Time Lord to help him defend civilized culture against infamous Doctor Who enemies. While the game doesn't let you take the part of the Doctor or be a Time Lord, it does offer the first MMO experience for the series. Robert Nashak is EVP Digital Entertainment at BBC Worldwide says, "Doctor Who: Worlds in Time will be a free-to-play multiplayer online game that invites players to save the universe by using their wits to solve time-bending puzzles and pulse-pounding challenges.
Meanwhile Daniel James is CEO of Three Rings Design, who are happy to have begun work on the title which is expected to be launched later this year.
Doctor Who: Worlds in Time is intended to be both highly engaging and fun, allowing players to socialize and foster genuine cooperation and thereby building a global community where fans worldwide will now be able to experience first hand the exciting action and adventure synonymous with Doctor Who. However, Three Rings Design aren't exactly synonymous with quality online multiplayer gaming, so we await this release with some trepidation.

| Posted: 24 Feb 2011 06:02 PM PST Okay, so you remember me and indie comicker Paul Rainey were interviewed at Orbital Comics the other day? Well, you can now see the whole thing on their website. I think it's a pretty fun time, and Paul's a sweetheart. Also, I've been interviewed about the future of Action Comics by Newsarama. I've got my fourteen month old twin nieces in the house tonight, so I'll have to clear those piles of comics out of the spare room, or have them turned into goo. But tomorrow morning, I hope to see you at the Cardiff International Comics Expo. Cheerio! |
