| Matt Smith: “Forget the Doctor” Posted: 07 Mar 2011 08:01 AM PST Coming soon on BBC TV is Christopher and His Kind, a biopic of famed homosexual author Christopher Isherwood, starring Doctor Who's Matt Smith. Focussing on the author's formative years in 1930s Berlin in the run-up to the Second World War, the film sees Isherwood uncovering his sexuality and identity, something Matt was apparently attracted to in order to play someone quite unlike himself.
It certainly looks like an interesting film, one that will hopefully put an end to the idea that Smith might be typecast by playing the Doctor.
Matt also met with Isherwood's partner, Don Bachardy, to find out more about the writer; based on this information and the details of Matt's gung-ho attitude to playing a gay man and experiencing stubble rash for the first time, Christopher and His Kind really looks like a film not to be missed. Airing the week of 19-25 March, Christopher and His Kind's airtime has yet to be confirmed.

| Piers Wenger steps down as Head of Drama, BBC Wales Posted: 07 Mar 2011 04:35 AM PST A BBC Press release today has revealed that Piers Wenger, one of the excutive producers and creative influences of the Eleventh Doctor's era of Doctor Who, is stepping down as Head of Drama at BBC Wales. His successor in the role will be Faith Penhale, creative manager and executive producer at Kudus Film and Television (Spooks). The release goes on to explain: Piers Wenger, who joined BBC Wales in 2007 and, with Stephen Moffat and Beth Willis masterminded the latest regeneration of Doctor Who with Matt Smith, will continue in his role as creative leader of a range of key shows including the Doctor.Wenger was responsible for the highly successful relaunch of Upstairs Downstairs as well as the extraordinary Eric And Ernie, which was the most successful drama on BBC Two for more than a decade. Having previously held the post as Head of Drama, he now wishes to focus more exclusively on the running of his existing slate of in-house shows as well as the creative development of individual projects, including Sir Tom Stoppard's forthcoming five-part adaptation of the Ford Madox Ford novel Parade's End for BBC Two. I am absolutely thrilled for Wales that it has someone as brilliant and experienced as Faith to bring in the next generation of shows. The department has blazed a trail across a wide portfolio of in-house and indie shows in the last few years and it's exciting for us all to have someone with Faith's huge talent to build on their success. | ||

| Posted: 07 Mar 2011 02:38 AM PST We're proud to report that recent Dark Shadows audiobook The Night Whispers has been nominated for a Rondo award, handed out yearly for excellence in horror. The Night Whispers is nominated in the Best Soundtrack or Horror CD category, and to vote for it, just visit the Rondo Awards website. Producer Stuart Manning is delighted with the nomination, and says, "The Night Whispers was one of the most ambitious Dark Shadows productions we've ever attempted, so it's lovely to see it receive this nod. Getting Jonathan Frid to reprise Barnabas after nearly 40 years was a genuine coup, and we really wanted to pull out the stops. We were also lucky to have a fantastic supporting cast in Emmy winner John Karlen and horror legend Barbara Steele, with Darren Gross and Jim Pierson directing sessions in Canada and Los Angeles to bring the story together. With wonderful, haunting sound design from David Darlington and atmospheric music from The Sarah Jane Adventures composer Sam Watts, I think everyone came together to make Barnabas's return a very special event." Your vote can make a difference! And why not place one for The Rocky Horror Glee Show while you're there...? | ||

| Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:56 AM PST Dr. Martha Smith nee Jones herself Freema Agyeman has been discussing a possible return to the world of Torchwood on Radio 2′s Graham Norton Show. The actress – currently appearing in the 493rd incarnation of Law & Order - has unsurprisingly said she's open to the idea of rejoining the Scooby gang:
More hopeful than anything Freema also waxed lyrical about the nature of the shows she's now most known for:
While she hasn't been linked with an appearance in the forthcoming Torchwood: Miracle Day it wouldn't be unusual for Russell T. Davies to throw in the odd mention of any of the characters currently floating about the Daviesverse waiting for either the right story or American backing to bring them back to life. | Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:02 AM PST There's nothing more like a twenty-something bartender to ease the burden of saving the known universe. Captain Jack's back in the saddle everyone and he's got himself a toy boy (eat it Midshipman Frame!)(steady on! – Ed). Intergalactic man-whore Captain Jack will be hooking up with Brad, a Washington based bartender for a "mutually satisfying one night stand", played by delicious Canadian actor Dillon Casey (Being Erica, The Vampire Diaries.) Pictures of Jack himself John Barrowman and Casey cavorting on set have emerged on costume designer Shawna Trpcic's twitter page as filming took place for Torchwood: Miracle Day's first meet-cute on the 12th February. But don't get too attached to this hunk of man-flesh as Brad won't be the only person Captain Jack does the horizontal mamba with in the new series. Torchwood: Miracle Dayis a co-production between BBC Worldwide in the UK and the Starz network in the USA and will air this summer. (via AfterElton)
