| Attention Kasterborous Stalkers! Posted: 26 Mar 2011 09:28 AM PDT Observant Kasterborous readers will notice a change to the website today – a small menu item that may or may not prove to be of importance to you… We've been intending to do this for a few years now (ummm… about 6) so scroll down to the foot of the page and feast your eyes, ladies and gentlemen, on the About Kasterborous page! This is a useful way for you to check out who the chaps behind your favourite articles are, and if you're really brace, put a name to the face, as it were, as well as find out what their favourite Doctor Who episodes are. Yes, in our new podkasting paradigm we're also keen to reach out to our readers and present a human face to all of the nonsense and wisecracking that intersperses the regular Doctor Who news here on Kasterborous, so if you're ever looking for someone to blame over a poorly constructed sentence or bad choice of contributor for a news assignment, you only have to head on over to the About Kasterborous page, take a look through the list and print out an image to hurl darts at! If you're more restrained, however, you might just like to see what we like to do in our spare time… | ||

| Autism project calls for Doctor Who fans Posted: 26 Mar 2011 08:22 AM PDT Researcher Michaela Schubert is working on a book about Doctor Who and the autism spectrum, and is calling for Doctor Who fans to answer a few questions about their experiences with the show. Says Schubert, The idea is to get as many people, especially those on the spectrum themselves, to respond and share their Doctor Who viewing experiences as possible, so that the book can reflect as many different viewpoints as possible. Because the show's audience and the autism spectrum are both so varied, the most important thing this project can do is to let everyone have their own say. Schubert emphasizes that contributions are welcome from all, regardless of how much Doctor Who you've seen or whether you have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition.Schubert is a PhD candidate at Penn State College of Medicine, and describes herself as "a Doctor Who fan and an Aspie". Information on the book project and links to a brief questionnaire can be found here; the questionnaire can also be found online in PDF or DOCX formats. | ||

| Posted: 26 Mar 2011 03:14 AM PDT There have been a few developments in the case of Steve Clark, the man who claims to have created the character of Davros, and plans to bring high court proceedings against the BBC for failing to acknowledge his authorship of the character. The evidence – an original sketch from 1972 that Mr Clark used to enter a competition to design a new monster for Doctor Who in TV Action magazine – shows an image of the 'half man, half dalek' concept and does bear a resemblance to Davros. The sketch is apparently a draft of the final image that a 13 year old Clark coloured in felt tip and sent off to the magazine. Three years later, the teenage Clark was given the shock of his life when his apparent creation appear in the seminal Genesis of the Daleks:
Clark's lawyer recognises that the whole case hinges on that drawing and the Intellectual Property diagram:
So far the BBC have asked for a 28 day extension to proceedings while they prepare for the case (standard practice, not a sign of guilt) and the Nation estate are currently digging through the archives from that period with the case not set to begin until at least May. We'll be keeping a close eye on this one. (via KentOnline)

| Posted: 26 Mar 2011 02:47 AM PDT A group of fans have started a new project based on the social networking and microblogging website, Twitter. The Doctor Who Bar, which is not a physical bar, is the name of an online group that meets every Saturday at 7pm GMT to watch an episode of Doctor Who and discuss it live on Twitter using #DoctorWhoBar to tag their tweets. The second meeting takes place this evening from 7pm GMT. The episode for tonight's viewing is still being decided in an online vote with Earthshock currently in the lead and The Curse of Fenric not far behind. The winner will be revealed at 5pm GMT. To join in you need press play on your DVD,VCR or computer at exactly 7.30pm GMT so you can all stay in synchronisation with the other viewers. | Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:30 PM PDT A fascinating project is underway thanks to a member of the WrongPlanet forum for Asperger syndrome, autism and related social/verbal discomforts, about Doctor Who and the autism spectrum. User Jeyradan is looking for people to take part in a survey that can be found on WrongPlanet, answering questions about the series of Doctor Who, the lead character and any companions as well as taking suggestions for content within the book. Now it is far beyond the remit of this website to offer any opinions as to whether there is any sort of link or attraction between Doctor Who and people with these conditions – hopefully this is something the eventual book will tell us or help us decide upon – but we are able to urge you to take part in what looks like being a fascinating project. Completed surveys should be emailed to dw-autism@hotmail.com, and if you've got time to complete 23 questions than go ahead and do it. The more answers the author receives, the better the outcome for the book! | ||

| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 10:45 PM PDT Candy Jar Books are currently having a spring sale, with the price of Kangazang! now reduced. The audio version of the sci-fi tale stars former Doctor Colin Baker, who narrates and performs a number of characters within the story - see our previous article for more details.Shaun Russell, director of the company, says: We've had fantastic reaction to both the book and CD. However, at Candy Jar we are focusing on new projects including a wartime memoir and children's book. It is now time to clear the decks, so if you have not purchased the CD yet this maybe your last opportunity to do so. We also have a handful of Mike Collins prints to give away. For every Kangazang CD or book sold online, we will give a £1 donation to the Atlantic Dash team. They will be rowing the Atlantic for three months later this year, raising money for three worthwhile causes: Help for Heroes, Breast Cancer Care and The Fire Fighters Charity. You can find full details about the story and how to buy from the Kangazang! website. | ||

| The Impossible Astronaut Promo Image Posted: 25 Mar 2011 08:55 PM PDT The BBC have released a fascinating new image to accompany the recent trailers and prequels for The Impossible Astronaut, the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who. Featuring the Doctor, Rory and Amy (Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill, Karen Gillan) seemingly reflected in the visor of a spacesuit, the image can be downloaded in two sizes, 4:3 and 16:9, suitable for traditional and widescreen displays. We think you will agree that this is a pretty stunning image… although we're not too certain why the writing on the TARDIS is the right way around if the time travellers are being reflected in the visor. On first glance this could be an error, but given the intricacies with which The Grand Moff tends to weave clues throughout his Doctor Who stories it could also be a sneaky clue to something. To what, we don't quite know. But certainly something. | ||
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 07:35 PM PDT An interesting bit of casting has been announced for Series 6 of Doctor Who. Catrin Stewart is listed on her online CV as appearing in the new series, and her character's name will be (look away now as it may be quite spoilerific)…
Answers on a postcard please… Of course it is just a character name, one that may or may not be relevant. From time to time these online CVs are briefly inaccurate, so let's not jump to any conclusions just yet…

| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 08:10 AM PDT Well, it's taken quite a bit of work to get this far, but I am delighted, ladies and gentlemen, to announce the return of the Kasterborous podKast (with a "K", remember?). It is a remarkable that we started with the very first one back in 2007, and in the intervening years it is fair to say that we have been summarily trumped by Podshock and DWO WhoCast who regularly issue good quality and compelling podcasts. Except… they're not Kasterborous, are they? Now the story of our 10th podkast (with a "K", yeh?) is an interesting one that goes back to September last year. At the time of his trip to the UK, Brian A. Terranova and myself had hoped to record a lot of traditional podkast material, but sadly this didn't transpire. This is one of the dangers of running a website between two different timezones. So prompted by our own Patrick Riley – who might well be launching a side project of his own in the future or at the very least teaming up for the new podKast paradigm (as I've been rather pretentiously, yet satisfyingly, describing it) – we've pushed on with a slightly different take on the traditional Kasterborous podKast (with a… oh sod it). We're breathing new life into the old girl with what we hope will be a team approach. Patrick and Brian will hopefully be taking part at some point in the not too distant future (along with any other Kasterborous team members who happen to be free and on Skype) but this time around I'm very happy to announce the first podKast in a very long time presented by myself with admirable support from podcasting veteran James McLean, the powerhouse behind the Millennium TV show campaign podcast BacktoFrankBlack. Big thanks must go to James for editing down our first chat about Doctor Who – we'll be bringing you more podKasts in the near future with a selection of interesting interviews. In the meantime, join me as we get to know newcomer James McLean in the first of what we hope will be a regular new Kasterborous Doctor Who podKast! Meanwhile you can subscribe to the podKast feed and both enjoy the classic podKasts and get new editions straight into your MP3 player! | ||
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 06:25 AM PDT Well, it's all hotting up! By now you should have seen the teaser trailers and today's prequel to The Impossible Astronaut and discovered the relevance of the phrase "look behind you" – so now is the time to ask, just what is happening here… Below we've got two images from the recent BBC teaser clips for the new series of Doctor Who, featuring the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and an astronaut.
Or is it?
Could it actually be that the clip features the Doctor, an astronaut and some other, bizarre and as yet unidentified creature, hiding over the Doctor's right shoulder? Now obviously Doctor Who Series 6 is just a few weeks away now, and we wouldn't want to spoil anything for you, but these images are taken from a trailer for the series, potentially shown in two different locations in the UK. What is particularly interesting is that some versions should show the grey-style alien (a Silent?) while others don't…

| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 03:30 AM PDT And… it's live! The special prequel for The Impossible Astronaut has been launched at the official BBC Doctor Who website, and features Stuart Milligan as former US President Richard Nixon… There really is little more to say, other than: hit play! The Impossible Astronaut is by Steven Moffat and is the first episode of season 32/Series 6. It hits BBC America on April 23rd; while th trailer says "Easter 2011″ we're expecting the same date here in the UK, so keep your eyes open for updates! Meanwhile, we'll leave it up to you to watch and rewatch this clip… (Via the BBC's Official Doctor Who site) |
