| New Doctor Who trailer for Tuesday Posted: 28 Mar 2011 11:09 AM PDT Having whetted our appetites with the two teaser trailers last week, the first episode prelude a couple of days later, and then an "iconic" image for the episode itself, the BBC are now about to unleash a new 60 second trailer which will premier on BBC1 tomorrow (Tuesday). No time has been confirmed for the trailer at present, though it is expected to during primetime viewing in the evening. The trailer will also be broadcast on the CBBC channel, but in a shortened 20 second form to remove some of the 'scarier' scenes, as BBC Publicity clarified: The trailer is a 60" and we usually play them on CBBC as well (for obvious reasons). We think this will be the first that will need to be edited down to a 20" to make it suitable and remove the scary bits (remember that we have six year olds and younger watch CBBC as well as twelve year olds) The 20" is just for CBBC. The 60" also has a 40" cut-down version that will be rotated in. | ||

| Posted: 28 Mar 2011 06:31 AM PDT Doctor Who Magazine have confirmed the title of Neil Gaiman's Doctor Who episode. Episode 4 of the new series, which guest stars Suranne Jones (Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa's Revenge) as Idris and Michael Sheen, will now be called The Doctor's Wife. There had been speculation of the title on a number of fan sites and this evening SFX had leaked it. Speculation began yesterday when Steven Moffat Tweeted to Gaiman: Ohh, just watched your one again! It's really good, isn't it? And look who it is! LOOK WHO IT IS!!! Today, Gaiman told his Twitter followers: Yes, Doctor Who Ep 4's title has made it onto the internet. Because the title is a spoiler, I will let you find it yourself. Edward Russell, Senior Brand Manager at BBC Tweeted in reply to Gaiman: in retrospect, we should have hung on until Friday [April] 1st... Then no one would have believed us!" Gaiman told Doctor Who Magazine: Idris is someone who is beautiful, and who bites, and who might just turn out to be an old acquaintance with a new face...", adding, "it starts in void-space, with something – or someone – we have not seen since The War Games, and a knock on the TARDIS door... Steven Moffat described the episode as: a beautiful poem of an episode" and says that Suranne Jones "will change the way you see Doctor Who forever forever – and that's a hand-on-heart promise. The Doctor's Wife was originally used as a fake title by John Nathan-Turner to discover possible leaks in the production office back in the 1980s. | ||
| Posted: 28 Mar 2011 06:04 AM PDT The SFX website has unveiled the title for Episode 4 of Series 6 of Doctor Who. The episode, written by Neil Gaiman, is now confirmed as 6.4: The Doctor's Wife. New Series Producer, Marcus Wilson, says on the episode: “It’s an episode that involves quite a big sprawl, huge alien world locations and a new take on a familiar character, which required a lot of work. It’s a big episode, but I think it’ll be one the fans will love. It’s a real love letter to the fans.”

| Neil Gaiman Episode Title (SPOILER) Posted: 28 Mar 2011 05:57 AM PDT The title of the Doctor Who episode by fantasy author Neil Gaiman has been revealed – and its pretty cool… However if you want to remain safe from spoilers – and it's quite a spoilerific title – you should probably go and play Angry Birds or something. Revealed on the SFX website, the episode features Suranne Jones (formerly seen in The Sarah Jane Adventures back in 2009) playing a lady called Idris, while renowned actor Michael Sheen also lends his voice. OK, here's the bit you want to see/avoid. Neil Gaiman's episode is called The Doctor's Wife. No obviously that's quite a title. We're not going to offer you any hope or dismissal of this – it comes straight from the horse's mouth (not to suggest that Mr Gaiman is in anyway tractator-like) and as soon as it airs, mor than likely fourth in the series, it will become fact. So there's no point you screaming your head off and heading onto a mongboard to type "Doctor Who died for me today" – it's done, it's real, it's enticing and interesting and you know damn well that you're going to watch it! The story is entitled The Pen is Mightier Than the Nerd, and to read it, all you need do is follow Mervyn on Twitter @mervynstone and drop by frequently for updates. To whet your collective appetite, here's a little synopsis for what's in store... Mervyn Stone wakes up beside a corpse. The corpse used to be noted memorabilia collector Alistair McGuffin, who has been bludgeoned to death by an autograph. The autograph is a rare signed photo, encased in perspex to keep it mint... and it's in Mervyn's hand. Mervyn tells the police he was only there to retrieve his chelsea boots... and then the boots turn up. Beside the bodies of two more collectors, also killed that night. | Dudley Moore – Doctor Who? Posted: 27 Mar 2011 11:11 PM PDT Here's an interesting factoid that you may have already known and forgotten or that might be completely new to you: comedy actor and musician Dudley Moore once agreed to star in a movie version of Doctor Who. Back in 1987, this was front page news, and Moore, whose career effectively came to an early end when he developed supranuclear palsy (he later died from related pneumonia in 2002) would have been the Doctor in a film produced by Daltenreys Limited had the project ever got off the ground. According to Jean-Marc Loffier's The Nth Doctor, Daltenreys was made up of ex-BBC men Peter Litten, George Dugdale and John Humphreys along with backing from big names such as vocalist Bryan Ferry, while the movie script ("The Return of Varnax") was written by Mark Ezra. All of this came flooding back to me today when I cast my eye over the fascinating article The Roles Dudley Moore Didn't Play, which analyses the actor's Hollywood career and namechecks some of the films he didn't take the lead role in (often dropping out for whatever reason) such as Splash or Superman III (where his character was later written out). Here's how Legacy.com put it:
These days, it is hard to imagine the casting of a major international star in the movie role of Doctor Who and the project failing to take off. However this is what happened, for various reasons (the script was too small in scale, suggests Loffier in The Nth Doctor), and no silver screen movie version of Doctor Who was ever made. However in an alternative universe, perhaps Moore would have been a massive success in the part, combining his cheeky, childlike persona with his ability as a serious actor… | ||
