Clearly this is disappointing for the series, as Wenger has been involved in some key Ben Stephenson is Wenger's colleague and superior, as controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, and he revealed that he is disappointed to see the
Apparently, Stephenson will be working in tandem with Steven Moffat to find a successor for Wenger in the coming months. At this stage, there is no suggestion or front-runner as a replacement for Wenger, although don't be surprised to find The Rebel Flesh/Fear Her writer Matthew Graham (who has the considerable credits of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes to his name) linked to the post. Incidentally, the more observant among you will have spotted that a seventh series of Doctor Who has yet to be commissioned.

| Almost People: Have it Your Way Posted: 26 May 2011 04:16 AM PDT You may or may not have already heard about or seen for yourself Matt Smith's appearance on The One Show on Tuesday, but if you missed it, then you missed your chance to be among the first to hear of the fast food treatment we'll be getting this weekend. Smith's appearance was full of delightful conversation that touched upon everything from self portraits to bow ties to Doctor Who stunts and football. There was even a rather amusing clip of the Doctor and his Ganger getting to know each other from this Saturday's The Almost People (check it out in the video embedded below)! But the real noteworthy moment from the interview was hearing Matt Smith more or less confirm that the next episode will conclude in (spoiler alert!) a Burger King restaurant. He even revealed that the much-awaited cliffhanger will itself be "a real whopper!" Naturally, such a shocking statement can only be interpreted literally. But don't take our word for it – watch for yourself! Eat your Whopper, with or without cheese, while watching The Almost People, this Saturday at 6:45 PM on BBC One. | Karen says River's reveal will “change everything” Posted: 26 May 2011 03:53 AM PDT Karen Gillan has revealed that River Song's long awaited reveal in next week's mid-series finale, A Good Man Goes to War, will "mark a massive change" for the series. "I really like the very long, drawn out process of finding out who River Song is, because you can really invest in it," the actress told Wired. [...] | ||

| Posted: 26 May 2011 02:20 AM PDT As you've hopefully all seen by now, there's a lovely new trailer doing the rounds on the old interweb for Torchwood: Miracle Day. If you haven't seen it yet then stop what you're doing right now and watch the quite frankly brilliant trailer until you've memorised every bit. …Done? Good, because now that your appetite is severely whetted and you just cannot wait for Torchwood to play out on the screens then we may have to put you in a slightly bad mood. But only if you live in Britain. Whilst Miracle Day has been given an air date of July 8th in America on the Starz channel, it has yet to receive a start date in the UK. Which does seem a little bit odd seeing as how its parent show and indeed the whole premise of Torchwood was born and bred in England and Wales. Now don't read this the wrong way, it's great that America has such a strong Doctor Who and Torchwood following and more fans equals more re-commissioned series to come but seriously, why is the UK not getting this first? Imagine living in the States and discovering that Supernatural or Justified or The Office (that last one may have spun off from a British show but Greg Daniels has made it America's own!) were to air in England way before stateside viewers got the chance to see it. The Starz channel may have been a great hand in helping Miracle Day to come to life but when it comes to anything to do with Doctor Who it really should be a case of "Britain gets first dibs". And this is said with the most respect possible, America creates many fine television shows each year and we wait over here in merry old England for them to eventually show up on DVD out of the blue one week. Normally we're a year or two behind on seasons whereas Doctor Who is shown as soon as possible over in the US, shouldn't we expect some kind of first in line status for our shows? It's like EastEnders being shown a week in advance on the Fox channel before it airs in the UK! Hopefully, this is all a rant over nothing and the BBC are just ironing out a few tweaks before they announce a UK air date to please everyone, they usually leave these things up until the last minute anyway. And maybe since the Starz channel is less well known then good old Auntie they may want to start getting there publicity rolling early to attract every viewer possible. After all, I'm sure that a joint venture with an overseas investor does not mean that it won't get aired in the UK first. But then again, there was the Doctor Who TV Movie in 1996 that aired in England fifteen days after it was premiered in Canada. Oh no, not again… | ||

We'll not tempt you with any hint about what these clips feature, other than the fact that one of the reader-submitted questions that Wired received was: "Does the Doctor have any 'love children' scattered through space and time?" So to start, the man himself, the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith: Meanwhile, look – it's Karen Gillan! Finally, Foxy Beth Willis has a few interesting questions of her own to answer. Steady on, lads! Doctor Who Series 6 continues this week on BBC One and BBC HD with The Almost People at 6.45 pm on Saturday, while the same episode can be seen on BBC America and Space in Canada the following week.

| Posted: 25 May 2011 10:30 PM PDT It's been confirmed that Piers Wenger, one of Doctor Who's three executive producers, is leaving the BBC. Piers succeeded Julie Gardner as Head of Drama for BBC Wales and shortly after became executive producer of Doctor Who, taking an active role in the casting of Matt Smith as the Doctor. He also served as executive producer on Doctor Who: The Adventure Games and Doctor Who Confidential. Away from the TARDIS he worked on Ashes to Ashes, Christopher and His Kind and the relaunch of Upstairs Downstairs. In March 2010 Piers stepped down as Head of Drama but remained at BBC Wales where he continued as creative leader for a number of key shows, including the award-winning Eric and Ernie. He commented, 'It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to Doctor Who and BBC Drama, and all of the extraordinary people who I have worked with there.' Piers is leaving the BBC to join Film4 and everyone in the Doctor Who team would like to wish him the very best of luck in his new role. [Source: BBC Doctor Who website] | ||

| Alex Kingston on Graham Norton Posted: 25 May 2011 09:30 PM PDT It's all getting very exciting in the world of Doctor Who right now. We've got a doppelganger of the Doctor to look forward to this Saturday and then beyond that there are just so many questions that we need answering, most of which stem from this year's opening two parter! But the big question that has been running around the internet and Doctor Who publications for the last couple of years is: who is River Song? The enigmatic lady that has been turning up in the Doctor's life (albeit backwards) has raised more questions than any other guest character in the show's history but worry not because this year we've been promised that all will be revealed, or at least something important about her that will make us all say "oooohhhh..I see!" The revelations start in next week's episode A Good Man Goes to War and due to the fact that Alex Kingston is returning to the Doctor Who fold once again for a major event episode she'll be appearing as a guest on the Graham Norton show next Friday. So make sure that you tune in to see Alex discuss all things Who and maybe reveal a bit or two about her latest episode. Elsewhere in the world of Alex, you can also visit the Alex Kingston Twitter fan page which has a number of spoiler-ish Doctor Who related articles linked to it. You'll also find a link to an unofficial short story that describes the first time the Eleventh Doctor and River…y'know…dance. It's actually very well written and the characters are excellently realised, so go and have a read! Watch the Graham Norton show on BBC One, Friday 27th May at 10:35 pm!

| Posted: 25 May 2011 09:20 PM PDT The BBC Doctor Who website has confirmed that Piers Wenger, currently one of three executive producers on Doctor Who, is leaving the BBC.Wenger commented: It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to Doctor Who and BBC Wales, and all of the extraordinary people who work on its shows. But Film4's output, with its ethos of encouraging film-makers to produce their most authored and original work, could not be closer to my heart. He replaced Julie Gardner as Head of Drama for BBC Wales in January 2009 and in July of that year became executive producer of Doctor Who and took a central role in the casting of Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor. His other executive producer credits on Doctor Who include The Adventure Games and Doctor Who Confidential. Away from Doctor Who, he worked on Ashes to Ashes, Christopher and His Kind and Upstairs Downstairs. In March 2011 Wenger stepped down as Head of Drama but remained at BBC Wales to continue as a creative developer. His position will be filled by Faith Penhale from Kudos in June. Wenger is leaving the BBC to join Film4 in Septemeber, where he will become the senior commissioning executive under Tessa Ross, Channel 4 controller of film and drama, who commented: (he is) a hugely talented executive who will bring to Film4 real vision at a time when we are embarking on an exciting new phase in our development. His successor as executive producer of Doctor Who will be filled in the coming months by head writer Steven Moffat and the BBC's controller of Drama Commissioning, Ben Stephenson, who said: I will be very sad to see him go. He's been a fantastic colleague and friend - but I know that film is a huge passion of his and this is a great new role for him." | ||

| There's Two Sides to Every Pond Posted: 25 May 2011 07:30 PM PDT When the Doctor bid farewell to the universe at the end of Season 5/31 he also said goodbye to Miss Amelia Pond, the little girl who waited. But what's that you say? 'Then whose the lanky ginger girl hanging around the TARDIS?' Well that's Amelia Pond too. Confused? Well imagine playing that/those parts. Karen Gillan has been sharing a few secrets with the New Zealand Herald as Season 6/32 starts its run in "land of the long white cloud" including her approach to Amy reuniting, forgetting and then remembering the Doctor and how such a dilemma has changed her Miss Pond:
The upside of all this is that Amy is now no longer the overbearingly 'fiesty' character of old:
It is going deeper and deeper with Amy and I'm having to explore new territory. There was one thing in the series that was just so emotional, which has never happened to me, so I had to go and talk to people it had happened to." And now having gained a new insight into her character Gillan is leaving. Well she's has been taking about her options in the future away from the TARDIS. But she's not leaving…yet…maybe…:

| Posted: 25 May 2011 06:30 PM PDT French Whovians recently received an extremely pleasant surprise when it was announced that Steven Moffat, head writer and executive producer of Doctor Who in its current form, will be paying a visit to la ville d'amour, otherwise known as Paris, in just over a month's time. The Grand Moff is to hold the prestigious title of Guest of Honour at Comic Con Paris' third-ever convention of its name (Season 3, as the French call it), which takes place between June 30th and July 3rd at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center. That's pretty much the extent of the details that we've been made aware of on the matter, though there's a high probability that more information will become available within the next couple of weeks or so. So you're French and/or in France and you know enough English to understand this post… What can you do to make Mr. Moffat feel welcome in your home country? Aside from groveling at his feet and shouting your love for Doctor Who and Sherlock into his ear, you can serve him a glass of your locale's finest wine. According to Karen Gillan in last year's Doctor Who Magazine 423, the man loves the stuff:
Sushi! Remember that, French people. Moff. Loves. Sushi. So to blend some of your own Parisian culture in there as well, feel free to throw a slab of raw fish in between two slices of your most delicious loaf of elongated bread. He'll feel right at home! Read the report for yourself at the English version of the Paris Comic Con website, or have a look at the all-French Beans on Toast forum, where an army of overjoyed French people have spilled their gleeful reactions, and thrown in a couple of happy English curse words for good measure! (Many thanks to an understandably excited Aurélie Demonchaux!)
