Kopic's Doctor Who & Torchwood News |
| Posted: 11 Jun 2008 09:18 AM CDT Thanks to everybody who took part in the survey! They would have been published as early as last month, if it weren't for work commitments and the re-drafting of a script I'm currently in the midst of. But nevermind all that... it's here at last! Let's start, shall we? RATE THE EPISODES This year's winner didn't quite reach the height's of last year's "Captain Jack Harkness" (which scored a very impressive 9.20/10) but on average, the results are considerably higher this year. For example, only two episodes scored less than an average of 7/10 this time around. All results are an average mark out of ten: 1: "Fragments" 9.11/10 2: "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" 8.48/10 3: "Exit Wounds" 8.42/10 4: "Reset" 7.69/10 5: "Adam" 7.65/10 6: "Something Borrowed" 7.53/10 7: "To the Last Man" 7.52/10 8: "Adrift" 7.49/10 9: "A Day in the Death" 7.46/10 10: "Dead Man Walking" 7.15/10 11: "Sleeper" 7.03/10 12: "From Out of the Rain" 6.81/10 13: "Meat" 6.66/10 Last year's season average was 7.416/10 - this year that figure was up to 7.615 (up almost 1.0275%), suggesting that - on average - fans are more satisfied with this latest run of adventures. If we were to add the scores for both season one and two together, it'd form a league table of the most popular to the least popular adventures (on average) so far - like so! 1: "Captain Jack Harkness" 9.20/10 2: "Fragments" 9.11/10 3: "End of Days" 8.96/10 4: "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" 8.48/10 5: "Exit Wounds" 8.42/10 6: "They Keep Killing Suzie" 7.90/10 7: "Everything Changes" 7.84/10 8: "Reset" 7.69/10 9: "Adam" 7.65/10 10: "Something Borrowed" 7.53/10 11: "To the Last Man" 7.52/10 12: "Out of Time" 7.49/10 = "Adrift" 7.49/10 14: "A Day in the Death" 7.46/10 15: "Countrycide" 7.28/10 16: "Small Worlds" 7.27/10 17: "Greeks Bearing Gifts" 7.19/10 18: "Dead Man Walking" 7.15/10 19: "Ghost Machine" 7.14/10 20: "Cyberwoman" 7.07/10 21: "Sleeper" 7.03/10 22: "Combat" 6.84/10 23: "From Out of the Rain" 6.81/10 24: "Meat" 6.66/10 25: "Day One" 6.64/10 26: "Random Shoes" 5.59/10 60% of the top ten episodes are from the show's second series. RATE THE (DOCTOR WHO) EPISODES 1: "The Empty Child" / "The Doctor Dances" - 9.38/10 2: "Bad Wolf" / "The Parting of the Ways" - 8.92/10 3: "Utopia" / "Sound of Drums" / "Last of the Time Lords" - 8.68/10 4: "Boomtown" - 7.87/10 5: "The Unquiet Dead" - 7.12/10 6: "Aliens of London" - 6.51/10 BEST ACTOR/ACTRESS It could be only one... Well, actually, it couldn't! We excluded John Barrowman from this year's vote, which opened up the competition and allowed another top tier Torchwood representative to win... 1: Burn Gorman (Owen Harper) 33.3% 2: Gareth David Lloyd (Ianto Jones) 30.16% 3: Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) 19.68% 4: Naoko Mori (Toshiko Sato) 15.87% 5: Kai Owen (Rhys Williams) 1.59% Without John Barrowman around, the team have all improved on their averages from last year - all execpt the brilliant Kai Own, who deserved better than his impossibly small 1.59% BEST GUEST STAR 1: James Marsters (Captain John Hart) 50.75% 2: Tom Price (PC Andy) 11.94% 3: Ruth Jones (Nikki, "Adrift") 8.96% 4: Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) 7.46% 5: 4: Nikki Amuka-Bird (Beth, "Sleeper") 4.48% = Anthony Lewis (Tommy, "To the Last Man") 4.48% 7: Paul Kasey (Various roles) 2.99% 8: Bryan Dick (Adam, "Adam") 1.49% = Nerys Hughes (Brenda, "Something Borrowed") 1.49% = Julian Bleach (Ghostmaker, "From Out of the Rain") 1.49% = Amy Mason (Alice Guppy, "Fragments"/"Exit Wounds") 1.49% BEST WRITER 1: Chris Chibnall ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", "Adrift", "Fragments", "Exit Wounds") 73.78% 2: Joseph Lidster ("A Day in the Death") 4.91% 3: James Moran ("Sleeper") 3.28% = Helen Raynor ("To the Last Man") 3.28% = Catherine Tregenna ("Meat", "Adam") 3.28% = J.C Wilsher ("Reset") 3.28% = Phil Ford ("Something Borrowed") 3.28% = Peter J Hammond ("From Out of the Rain") 3.28% 4: Matt Jones ("Dead Man Walking") 1.64% BEST DIRECTOR 1: Ashley Way ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", "Reset", "Something Borrowed", "Exit Wounds") 47.54% 2: Jonathan Fox Basset ("From Out of the Rain", "Fragments") 29.5% 3: Andy Goddard ("To the Last Man", "Adam", "Dead Man Walking", "A Day in the Death") 14.75% 4: Colin Teague ("Sleeper", "Meat") 4.92% 5: Mark Everest ("Adrift") 3.28% BEST TIE-IN BOOK 1: The Twilight Streets (Gary Russell) 64.52% 2: Trace Memory (David Llewellyn) 22.58% 3: Something in the Water (Trevor Baxendale) 12.9% BEST AUDIO BOOK 1: Hidden (Steven Savile) 53.85% 2: Everybody Says Hello (Dan Abnett) 46.15% ACCESS ALL AREAS - OTHER MERCHANDISE Averages out of ten: 1: Anything Goes - John Barrowman Autobiography (CD & Book) - 8.95/10 2: Torchwood - the Official Magazine (Titan Publishing) - 7.96/10 3: Inside the Hub (Steven James Walker, Telos Publishing) - 7.83/10 4: The official website (www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood) - 7.73/10 A lot of fans used the survey to demonstrate their annoyance that the official site is blocked so that users outside of the UK are unable to visit. | Posted: 11 Jun 2008 08:41 AM CDT Some new information regarding the now confirmed third season of Torchwood - courtesy of the official Torchwood Magazine, published monthly by Titan. The publication states on its Facebook page: Torchwood executive producer Julie Gardner has confirmed that a third series of Torchwood will start filming in August. The new series will comprise one continuous story told over five one-hour episodes on BBC1, with episodes by Russell T Davies and other as yet unnamed writers. Though our new issue had just gone to press just before the new series was announced, we got straight on the phone to Julie, who told us: "As you know, plans for a third series have been underway for a long time, and we now have a new producer and a new director in place, as well as brand new scripts all ready to go. It's the longest and most ambitious story we have ever made, so be prepared for some shocks and surprises! Life at Torchwood is never quiet or easy, and the whole of Captain Jack's world is about to be turned upside down!" Issue 6 of Torchwood Magazine is on sale in the UK on 19th June! It's the first time we've had it confirmed that Davies will still be involved with the series next year, following the departures of both Richard Stokes and Chris Chibnall. More news on season three in the coming weeks! | ||

| Posted: 11 Jun 2008 06:05 AM CDT The second issue of Captain Britain and MI-13 is out today in the States, tomorrow in the UK, and, in a bit of an outreach effort, we've plonked the address of this blog in there, with the aim of starting up a sort of unofficial letters page. Do feel free to comment on the issue, therefore, but do keep it clean. And you know that thing where an otherwise positive letter says 'you rock, unlike | ||

| Posted: 10 Jun 2008 08:22 PM CDT British stage actor and guest star of 1978's The Pirate Planet, Bruce Purchase, has died following a short illness; he was 69. As The Captain in Douglas Adams' first Doctor Who story, Purchase boomed and blustered his way through a superbly written and acted part, one half of a great double act with The Captain's first mate, Mr Fibuli. 2003 saw the actor give the first performance of Johnson is Leaving, John Wain's adaptation of his 1974 biography of Dr Samuel Johnson, at The Swan... | ||
