As reported several weeks ago, the Television and Radio Industries Club had Doctor Who nominated for its TV Drama Programme category - and the TRIC Award was one of the few that the series had yet to win…

Great news then - Doctor Who won the award!

While it was the first time in 47 years that Doctor Who had taken this particular prize, former Rose Tyler actress Billie Piper took the "New TV Talent" award in 2006.

Despite this current success, there is every chance that this could be the last award for some time. With a change in leadership, Doctor Who's recent award-magnet status could possibly be set to end…

Doctor Who available early on ABC's iView

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 06:49 PM PST

ABC Television in Australia have announced that the new series of Doctor Who is to be made available on their online iView service, a couple of days before broadcast on television. Director of Television Kim Dalton said:
iView is an additional way for Australian audiences to watch ABC TV's content generally after, but in this special case before, its television broadcast. We hope the lure of Doctor Who will provide incentive for more viewers to discover iView.
Previous series of Doctor Who were available on the iview service, becoming its highest rated programme last year with some 378000 views between April and December.

Meanwhile, in the UK the BBC's iplayer service still proves very popular, with figures for January showing some 68.2m viewers catching up on television. The 10th Doctor finale The End Of Time Part Two was the second most-watched programme with 831000 requests, with Top Gear performing best overall with some 1.1m requests for its final episode of the current series.

Doctor Who wins TRIC Award

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 06:10 PM PST

TRICThe Television and Radio Industries Club held their annual TRIC Awards yesterday at the Grosvenor House, London, during which Doctor Who won the award for "TV Drama Programme"; the show was up against ITV1's Doc Martin and Channel 4's Shameless.

This is the first time that Doctor Who has won a TRIC award, though actress Billie Piper received the "New TV Talent" award in 2006.

You can find the winners of all categories at the TRIC website.

International Sync

Posted: 09 Mar 2010 05:37 PM PST

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as the Doctor and Amy Pond - coming to an international territory near you!International broadcasts of Doctor Who in major English speaking territories have been cleverly synchronized, it seems, with both Australian and Canadian fans able to watch the 2010 series starring Matt Smith from Saturday, 17th April!

Following on from the announcement that BBC America would air Doctor Who 2 weeks after its UK premiere, Canada's SPACE network and Australia's TV Tonight blog have revealed the same dates for broadcast.

It seems that (despite few American fans being able to view BBC America) the BBC is determined to reduce as much as possible the practice of sharing new Doctor Who episodes online via the torrent network and other sources. There's also the possibility that aligning broadcast dates should also have the added bonus of aligning DVD release dates!

However - although fans in Australia can view Doctor Who online using the iView system on the 17th of April, the show itself won't be broadcast until the 18th! Evidently the ABC network there wants to get as much interest into its video on demand player as possible, and sees the BBC iPlayer as a success story it wants to follow. Doctor Who's performance on iPlayer is well-reported, so this is hardly surprising.

Regardless of this, it still means that international fans get to enjoy Smith with Karen Gillan as the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond in the first series from the guiding hand of new Executive Producer Steven Moffat just a few days behind the rest of us.
