Matt Smith: Workaholic

Posted: 13 Mar 2010 04:37 AM PST

Matt Smith has spoken of his intense relationship with his work in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, pointing out that this intensity is part of the joy of being involved with something like Doctor Who.

Matt Smith as the Doctor in The Eleventh HourThe interviewer seems to want to find out more about Smith - and certainly succeeds, albeit not in the way they expected.

It seems that the Eleventh Doctor actor is a bit of a workaholic when it comes to learning lines - and he loves every minute of it.

'My life is my work,' he says. 'The evenings are spent learning lines and, because there's such a huge amount, that's it, really. But I don't mind. I'm happier when I'm working intensely. I find it rewarding.

When asked about Smith's relationship with Brazilian singer Mayana Moura - who the Daily Mail themselves reported that he had split up from in July 2009, the actor responded:

'Work is my girlfriend at the moment. I suppose any extreme artistic personality has an intense relationship with work. That's the joy, that's the gift.'

The Doctor is like Einstein

Posted: 13 Mar 2010 03:01 AM PST

Matt Smith is the Doctor. Or Albert EinsteinSpeaking to the Daily Mail this week, Doctor Who star Matt Smith has revealed that to research his role as the Eleventh incarnation of the Time Lord, he read up on Albert Einstein.

Einstein of course is the legendary Nobel prize-winning physicist whose work changed the face of science, mathematics and warfare.

If anything comes from this interview, it is the fact that not only is Smith a workaholic ("Work is my girlfriend at the moment") he is fiercely intelligent.

'The Doctor is the cleverest man in the universe. He's the most infinite man I've ever played. When I was researching him, I read a lot about Einstein. I thought, if there were to be someone on the planet who had a brain near the size of the Doctor's, it's probably him. At the moment, this is a great source of joy.'

It's a fair enough observation - and further evidence that Smith is an extremely good fit for the role of the Eleventh Doctor. We'll find our for certain in just three weeks time!

Don't miss Tom's first Scottish convention in almost 20 years! Glasgow, 29th May 2010

Posted: 12 Mar 2010 10:00 AM PST

"Army of Guests 4" is the Glasgow Doctor Who Society's fourth annual Doctor Who convention and takes place on 29th and 30th May 2010 at Glasgow Trades Hall. This event marks Tom's first Doctor Who convention in Scotland since 1993 and will be the first time a Scottish convention has ever had three Doctors on the same guest list! Add in a rare convention appearance by one of the show's most popular producers, Philip Hinchcliffe, and a Doctor Who convention debut for Tom Goodman-Hill, and it's an event not to be missed!
