Posted: 31 Mar 2010 04:00 PM PDT He caused millions of viewers to hide behind the sofa in the late '80's and now he's set to return in what promises to be an epic series finale. Yes, the Kandy Man is coming back! The Kandy Man, for those unfamiliar, was a monster that featured in a Doctor Who story originally broadcast in 1988 called The Happiness Patrol. The terrifying creation was a homicidal robot resembling Bertie Bassett, and deliciously used sweets to kill its victims. Steven Moffat said, "The Kandy Man is one of the shows most iconic monsters and I'm thrilled to bring another classic piece of Doctor Who history to modern audiences." "We've had Daleks, Cybermen and the Master, but nothing can prepare the Doctor for the Kandy Man. There will be allsorts of danger for the Eleventh Doctor to avoid. He will find himself in some very sticky situations."
The Arc of Insanity on the TARDIS Tavern Podcast Posted: 31 Mar 2010 03:55 PM PDT The following is reposted from my blog at Art Trap Productions. It was months in the making, but it finally happened after Gallifrey 21, I was a guest 'bartender' on the TARDIS Tavern podcast! No sooner after completing my previous post about being on Cultdom Collective podcast, word came to me via @tardistavern that The Arc of Infinity episode we recorded last week has now been released. Join the insanity with the insanely great hosts Steve Stacy and Sean Homrig of the TARDIS Tavern as we review 20th anniversary season kick off episode, Arc of Infinity with Peter Davison as the 5th Doctor. Not only do we discuss this 1983 story, but Doctor Who in general and how I happened to come across it all those years ago.

Posted: 31 Mar 2010 02:06 PM PDT The following is reposted from my blog at Art Trap Productions. Last week I had the privilege of being on and joining my fellow co-host James Naughton on the Cultdom Collective podcast. The episode is a Gallifrey One preview show. Yes, the Doctor Who convention is a year away now at this point, my friends at Cultdom are getting a head start for those planning on attending next February in Los Angeles, CA. Originally all I had done was record a short comment that was to be played on the show with James. Then the scheduling gods were shinning upon us, because they were recording at a time when I was able to join in on the fun, unbeknownst to James. They were playing my pre-recorded clip I made about meeting James in person for the first time at Gallifrey 20 when suddenly I was on the show myself.

Posted: 31 Mar 2010 07:30 AM PDT Currently on tour around the United Kingdom, Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have this week already visited Belfast and today stopped at the North East city of Sunderland. Their stop on the BBC Outreach bus in Belfast was reported on the BBC's local news website for the region (where you can catch Matt and Karen on a video clip) where Matt Smith revealed what he did when he was cast as the Doctor.
Today in Sunderland meanwhile, they visited Sunderland University where 150 local schoolchildren where gathered to preview The Eleventh Hour. Beware spoilerphobes – the link above leads to an article with the following potential spoiler:
Smith already seems to be slotting into the ambassadorial role, engaging a room full of kids in the Q&A session that followed the screening. I like the following observation from Smith:

Doctor Who will be followed by the latest edition of the search for Dorothy in Over the Rainbow. For the first time, Doctor Who will face opposition from FA Cup football on ITV 1 where they are showing the Semi-Final between Aston Villa and Chelsea. The last FA cup match to be shown in this timeslot was Chelsea V Stoke on 6th March, which got 3.46 million watching. BBC Two will be showing the 2004 biopic The Aviator, charting the life of eccentric film director Howard Hughes over a 20-year period. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett. Channel 4 will show reality series Come Dine with Me while Five has the 1994 film I Love Trouble, a romantic comedy about two rival reporters who constantly try to out-scoop each other, starring Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte. Doctor Who Confidential is on BBC Three at 7.00pm and finds out just what makes the sinister Smilers tick as well as talking to Oscar-nominated actress Sophie Okenedo about creating her extraordinary character. BBC HD is showing Golf: The Masters on Saturday so the HD broadcast of Confidential will be on Sunday 11th April at 6.10pm. |
