He confirmed that part of the series will be filmed in Wales and that John Barrowman will be joined by a mix of British and American cast members. Part of the plot will deal with culture differences between team members. When asked about the current series of Doctor Who, Davies said he loves the new series, he described Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as part of a glorious age, and said he wished there were twenty episodes a year.

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 10:23 AM PDT The original narrow based Dalek from The Evil of the Daleks is being sold at Bonhams in London on the 23rd of June. It was created to go through ordinary doors on set and was nicknamed the Wilkie Dalek after Bernard Wilkie, co founder of the BBC Visual Effects Department rescued it from a skip at Ealing Studios in the 1970's. It is up for sale with a number of other Doctor Who exhibition items following the closure of the Doctor Who Museum in Blackpool last year.

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 08:37 AM PDT The Register has reported some cheeky pirate versions of City of the Daleks are appearing on P2P sharing sites outside of the UK. The first episode of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games was released on Saturday 5h June and is available for free download to licence payers in the UK only. But unfortunately, as can happen, several downloads have appeared on file sharing sites that claim to let you access the game even if you live outside of Britain. Sunbelt Software security researcher Chris Boyd warned potential file sharers who were thinking of obtaining the game from an untrusted source:
Boyd has been analyzing the rogue files since their initial release and went on to comment:
If you do live anywhere but Britain and are thinking of downloading the game from a file sharing source then just don't. The game will be released for sale overseas soon and the best thing to do is be patient as it is worth the wait. Getting Malware, Spyware or even worse – a virus – will be the undoing of your PC and will result in you never getting to play City of the Daleks at all.
Doctor Who wins timeslot in Canada. Posted: 08 Jun 2010 08:30 AM PDT Canadian Broadcaster SPACE was the most watched channel in the country during last Saturday's showing of Episode 7 of the current series, Amy's Choice. Nearly 400,000 viewers were watching Doctor Who at 9pm ET, beating every other Canadian channel. SPACE have described the news as "a big, awesome deal for us – we are thrilled that so many are loving the new Doctor." The series continues on SPACE this Saturday and runs through until July 24th. The final episode will be followed by a live one-hour 'InnerSpace' fan forum, with a guest panel discussion in front of a live studio audience.
Amy’s Choice is Canada’s Choice Posted: 08 Jun 2010 08:25 AM PDT Here’s one that I don’t think anyone was predicting - Space has announced that Doctor Who won it’s timeslot with the broadcast of Amy’s Choice on Saturday, June 5th. We’re not talking about just winning its timeslot against the other cable speciality channels - the episode won its timeslot over all other channels including conventional networks like CBC, CTV, Global etc. Helped of course by a lack of a Stanley Cup playoff game on that particular Saturday, but a win is a win, and when was the last time we could say that about a Doctor Who episode broadcast in Canada - on a speciality network to boot! Nearly 400,000 tuned in on Saturday night alone, and no doubt the subsequent Sunday broadcasts will have pushed the total viewing audience well over that mark. In a word - wow!

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 06:16 AM PDT Without a shadow of a doubt the world of Who would be a lesser place without punchy, no-nonsense prose of Terrance Dicks. As well as serving as Script Editor during the Pertwee years under legendary producer Barry Letts, Dicks also wrote more Who Target novelisations than any other writer with his stock phrases and straightforward descriptions such as "A groaning, wheezing sound" for the TARDIS passing into Who folklore. So SFX and BBC Books have decided to pay homage to the great man with a competition giving Who fans the chance to immortalise their own Dicks style description of the Eleventh Doctor in an upcoming Who novel. The contest will be run via Twitter throughout June and will be judged by the great man himself.
So what best captures the Eleventh Doctor? The bowtie, the dextrous fingers, the tweed jacket, the chin? All you need to do is hop onto Twitter and message @SFXmagazine with your entry and make sure to include #SFXWHO at the end. You've got until the end of June to write a 119 character masterpiece of Dicks brevity. (Via SFX)

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 04:58 AM PDT Two more slices of J-Horror today ... and a couple of films which I had heard about but not managed to catch up with. Battle Royale is a sort of Lord of the Flies meets I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here ... with just about every weapon you can imagine. The back story is quite nice: the kids of today are so unruly and disrespectful that the only way to try and deal with them is to pick a class at random, ship them all off to a deserted island, and then let them kill each other. At the end of three days, whoever is the sole survivor returns home. And if there is no sole survivor, then all the survivors are killed by exploding necklets which each kid wears. The latest class arrives, and the events are apparently being orchestrated by an ex-teacher of theirs, Kitano, who they tormented. There are 40 kids in total, and unfortunately having so many makes the film drag somewhat. There is not really enough time to get to know them before they are being slaughtered by their classmates either on purpose, or by accident. The set pieces are quite nice, with kids being killed by crossbow, hanging, scythe, revolver, tazer gun, poison ... the list is endless, but the film soon starts to get a little repetative as kid after kid makes his or her maker. I won't reveal the ending here as there is a twist, and it's quite nice - I didn't see it coming even if those I was watching with did. Apparently there are sequels to this outing which are dire and should be steered clear of ... which sounds like a good warning to me. The other film is Phone (or Pon), which is a very effective piece indeed. A girl, Ji-won, brilliantly played by Ji-won Ha, finds her mobile phone being called by a mysterious number which cannot be traced. Others who listen to the calls seem to be driven mad by them, and the girl has to try and work out what is happening, and what the connection between the victims is. Best of the lot is the young daughter (Yeong-ju) of a married couple, Ho-jeong and her husband Chang-hoon, who gets posessed by whatever is haunting the phone and ends up throwing herself down a flight of stairs. The young actress, Seo-woo Eun, is simply brilliant and playing the possession, and she is genuinely creepy in a way, perhaps, that Linda Blair was in The Exorcist many years earlier. The explanations, when they come, are all good, and make sense, and the ultimate revelation of who is behind it all is very nicely hidden and revealed. Again, I didn't guess ... and the revelations of what had actually happened are good and gruesome. This is one of the better films of its type, up there with Ringu and the original Ju-On (The Grudge). The sequels are never as good, and the inevitable American remakes often lose the plot and the horror in their translation. But Phone is excellent, and well worth seeking out.
