Posted: 21 Jun 2010 05:31 PM PDT Okay, perhaps it didn't exactly make the list. But the Doctor Who franchise did receive an honourable mention from the Australian PC Authority in its analysis of what it calls the Top Ten Geek Entertainment Franchises! Although, perhaps the series shouldn't have even been brought up, because it ended up being the target of various backhanded compliments, such as:
First off, as any Whovian could tell you, the franchise – which is what they're supposed to be discussing, not just the television series – has been around for nearly half a century. These writers are making Doctor Who sound as if it began with Colin Baker! Furthermore, they don't seem to have actually seen the show in years:
Not to be picky, you PC Authority lot, but it's called psychic paper! They also seem to think that Doctor Who was in production during the final decade of the twentieth century:
Considering there was only one canonical televised story in those ten years, I'd say the programme, in actuality, went from not-terrible-but-could-be-better to nonexistent. But all this Doctor Who anti-complimenting does have an explanation; one of the writers all but admits that he and his co-worker only gave Who the honourable mention because their boss made them do it:
Without the excellent plot? Apparently he hasn't been exposed to the Grand Moff (and what is this "Blake's Seven" of which they speak – Ed). Oh, and as a side note, why was Star Trek awarded the number-one slot on this list of top geek franchises but Doctor Who merely given a nod? Clearly, the Australian PC Authority has everything backwards.

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 11:36 AM PDT Space just finished airing the 2005 season of Doctor Who (AKA Series One AKA Season 27 AKA the year with Christopher Eccleston). If you came to look at our TARDIS files for this season you’d quickly discover there aren’t any. We didn’t start them til the 2007 Season (AKA Series Three AKA Season 29 AKA I hate BBC marketing…). However, be disappointed no more. In honour of their airing on Space, DWIN is proud to unveil the TARDIS files for the 2005 season. (Or at least the first six. The final seven will appear in the next few days—these things take a while to set up!) Take a look at our episode guide/reviews of the first 13 episodes of the new series Doctor Who and feel free to comment on the 2005 season in the comment sections here.

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 10:47 AM PDT Final figures for Episode Eleven of Doctor Who, The Lodger, published by BARB show the story was watched by 6.44 million viewers. On BBC One the programme got 5.98 million watching where it was the sixth most watched programme for the channel for the week. An additional 0.464 million watched on BBC HD and when added together the programme totalled 6.44 million viewers. Final figures for ITV1 HD are not available, so a full top thirty programmes of the week can't be calculated. Doctor Who stands at 21st for the week without HD figures added. If HD figures are included, it would almost certainly rise to be the 20th most watched programme of the week. The BBC Three Sunday repeat did not rank high enough to get into the top 30 for the week. Full ratings for the series so far can be found in Gallifrey Base.

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 09:36 AM PDT Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat has praised the performances of his two stars, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in their digitised form in Doctor Who: The Adventure Games first installment City of the Daleks. Moffat believes Smith & Gillan's on-screen chemistry is part of the reason why families up and down the country are taking to these Adventure Games so enthusiastically – resulting in over 500,000 downloads so far!
City of the Daleks was scripted by Phil Ford (Waters of Mars) and features excellent dialogue between the two main characters. Writing dialogue for video games is no easy task, potentially involving multiple paths through the same set of events. Ford's work here is largely linear, and works really well.
Tuesday will see details of the second episode of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games. Speculation suggests the title is Winter of Fear – whatever the title, get ready for the Cybermen! If you're yet to play City of the Daleks the free-to-download game is now available for PC and Intel-powered Mac computers. Download from bbc.co.uk/doctorwho. We've got two reviews to help you make up your mind – take a look at our review on Kasterborous and my own review here.

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 07:31 AM PDT We’re starting to hear reports that BBC America isn’t airing Doctor Who on the 4th of July weekend, which means Space won’t for the 1st of July weekend… all of which means we’re going to be 4 weeks behind UK transmission by the time we get to the end of the season. Let the sighing commence…

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 07:00 AM PDT 'Captain Cheesecake' John Barrowman has teased that Eva Longoria was 'naughty' on the set of Desperate Housewives. The Doctor Who/Torchwood actor recently was a guest star on six episodes of the show and has suggested they may have 'fondled' each other on set. Speaking in Now magazine, Barrowman said:
Barrowman plays eco-terrorist Patrick Logan, the psychotic ex-boyfriend of Angie Bolan (Drea De Matteo) Recently the actor – due to assemble a new "Scooby gang" stateside for the revival of Torchwood – said he didn't want to be typecast.
Desperate Housewives continues on Channel 4, Wednesdays at 22:00. (via Digital Spy)
Posted: 21 Jun 2010 06:04 AM PDT Time for everyone to heave a collective sigh. The Sun really isn't very bright; in fact, it's more of a black hole, sucking in all the important news and replacing it with irrelevant garbage featuring everyone's favourite media faces! One of the tabloid's latest "reports" discusses Torchwood actress Naoko Mori, who, as Kasterborous contributor Meredith Burdett mentioned a week ago, will appear totally garment-less alongside Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston on the BBC4 broadcast of Lennon Naked this week, a fact the Sun makes quite a point of drawing attention to. The impossibly short snippet of information from the Sun makes Mori appear to be a drinking, panicking wreck, referring to her as "terrified" about taking off her clothes for the camera and making the statement,
While an interviewwith Mori published earlier this month by the Daily Record can confirm this…
…the Sun's spin on the story attempts to strip her of more of her professional dignity than any nude filming sequence ever could, painting a picture of an insecure actress afraid to do her job. In reality, she's just another human being who, like many of us, would prefer to maintain her modesty whenever she can. Our advice? Don't follow this link to read the Sun's blinding tale of nothingness, because that would just give the website the hits it needs to stay in business. You'd only be feeding the monster. However, if the Sun is to be trusted (a word that is used loosely), there is one interesting noodle that surfaces from its stew of rubbish:
She would certainly be welcome back! Lennon Naked airs Wednesday at 9:30PM on BBC4 and BBC HD. Find out more information about the programme on the BBC website.
