Posted: 22 Jun 2010 09:19 AM PDT I've just signed an exclusive deal with DC Comics, which means that, over the next two years, I'll be doing a lot of work for them. Indeed, I'm a couple of issues into one title you haven't heard about yet. I couldn't be happier, or feel more welcomed, in my new playground. You can hear about that, and about what's going to be happening in Action Comics, including who some of our guest villains are going to be here. I'm thoroughly chuffed! Cheerio! | ||

Posted: 22 Jun 2010 09:06 AM PDT SFX online have listed their top twenty people working in science fiction, which, as well as some of the hottest Hollywood names you can shake a stick at, contains a couple of well known faces associated with Doctor Who. The "Hot 20" contains names such as Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), James Cameron (The Terminator, Avatar), Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Family Guy), Joss Whedon (Angel, Firefly) and Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner). In amongst these titans of America (Chris Nolan is English, yes, but works primarily on Hollywood films) are two of our favourite faces. At number twelve is Doctor Who Executive Producer Stephen Moffatt, known locally as "The Grand Moff". SFX commented on the new head honcho:
Further up the ladder at sixth place, is none other than the eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. Labelled as "Time Lord in residence" (which should be an official title given to him by the Queen, surely?), SFX describes Matt and why he has proved himself worthy in the role:
These placements are thoroughly well deserved by the two, and here's hoping that they're continually recognised for their outstanding achievements in Doctor Who for years to come! The full article can be found at SFX.com. In amongst these titans of America (Chris Nolan is English, yes, but works primarily on Hollywood films) are two of our favourite faces. At number twelve is Doctor Who Executive Producer Stephen Moffatt, known as "the Boss". SFX commented on the new head honcho: "Doctor Who's new showrunner picked up the baton from Russell T Davies in predictably confident style, as Matt Smith took a few short minutes to make the Time Lord his own. Having used the RTD era as a blueprint and melded his own storytelling sensibilities to it, Moffat's Who-niverse is one of the most exciting places on TV – a good thing, then, that we'll be going back there in 2011." Further up the ladder at sixth place, is none other than the eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. Labelled as "Time Lord in residence" (which should be an official title given to him by the Queen surely?), SFX describes Matt and why he has proved himself worthy in the role: "Faced with the chilling prospect of following the utterly squee-drenched David Tennant, Smith clearly realised that the only possible option was to blow the nation's socks off. His magical, magnetic, mad-fingered turn in this year's Who has elevated him from unknown gamble to Saturday night hero (and unlikely saviour of the tweed industry, to boot). Never underestimate the starmaking power of that old blue box." These placements are thoroughly well deserved by the two, and here's hoping that they're continually recognised for their outstanding achievements in Doctor Who for years to come! Reversing the Polarity – Silly? Posted: 22 Jun 2010 08:05 AM PDT In the forward thinking genre of sci-fi mistakes can be made, ideas that seem so exciting, so bold on screen can turn out to be as plausible as a Jesus Christ's hovercraft. There are no end of scientists (and Terry Pratchett) gesturing wildly at the TV in disgust at the crossed out and rewritten theories of the poorest scientific minds in drama; Doctor Who is no different. SFX have plundered the vault and come up with ten examples of the "Silliest SF Moments", with fan favourite and genre staple "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow' coming in at number nine. The catchphrase was used by Terrance Dicks to aid Jon Pertwee, who was adverse to learning any technobabble in his scripts;
In layman's terms you could actually get neutrons to flow with a polarity but only theoretically.As SFX transaltes:
The full phrase was only used once during Pertwee's reign as the Doctor once in 1972's The Sea Devils – and again during the 20th anniversary episode The Five Doctors. On other occasions he would simple 'reverse the polarity' of various things. He advises that the drill in Inferno has its polarity reversed, tells Ruth to reverse the temporal polarity of the TOMTIT device in The Time Monster; he reverses the polarity of his sonic screwdriver in Frontier in Space; he reverses the polarity of some dismantled circuitry in Planet of the Daleks; he tells Osgood to reverse the polarity of the diathermic energy exchanger in The Dæmons; and he reverses the polarity of the timescoop in Invasion of the Dinosaurs. The last use of the phrase was in the Tenth Doctor tale The Lazarus Experiment where the Doctor said he was too out of practice to do it quickly enough to escape the Lazarus machine. Whether or not making neutrons moon walk ruins a perfectly good episode of Doctor Who is another theory entirely- perhaps its best to leave the last word to Pratchett himself:
