It's been announced that four of the classic cast have filmed cameo appearances for the new film, all of whom will be familiar to Big Finish listeners. Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins), David Selby (Quentin Collins), Lara Parker (Angelique) and Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie Evans) filmed their scenes at Pinewood last month, and to celebrate, Big Finish has a special download offer showcasing all four actors. So, for a limited time, you can enjoy four classic Dark Shadows dramatic readings at half-price - that's just a fiver! Jonathan Frid returns to the role of Barnabas after 39 years in The Night Whispers, which scooped a Rondo award for best horror soundtrack; David Selby stars as enigmatic immortal Quentin Collins in Blood Dance; Lara Parker plays the dangerous witch Angelique in The Path of Fate; and Kathryn Leigh Scott is downtrodden Collinsport waitress Maggie Evans in The Ghost Watcher. And that's not all: you can order the bundle of four stories for only £15 on CD or as downloads! | Posted: 10 Aug 2011 03:46 AM PDT Matt Smith has always been an actor that has wanted to get inside the head of his incarnation of the Doctor. Varied research for the role has proven this, such as the actor watching old Doctor Who adventures before he started shooting his first series. And with all that history that Matt's been soaking up over the last couple of years, he's started to notice character traits within the good Doctor's nature. One such trait is his ability to move on very quickly from one "friend" to the next and how this can make the Doctor seem quite selfish. Smith stated:
This certainly seems to be something that the Doctor has done on many an occasion. The Fourth Doctor left Sarah Jane Smith behind, the Fifth let Tegan run out of his life, the Seventh used his friend Ace to trap Fenric. But behind all of this, there isn't a selfish man, just a man. His friends either have to go due to circumstances (the Fourth Doctor couldn't take Sarah with him as he had to go to Gallifrey – no humans were allowed) or because they chose to. And while they were gone, he met new people and moved on with his life. Not one of us can claim to be any different so let's give the old time traveller a break! | ||
| Doctor Who’s Biggest Loose End Is… Posted: 10 Aug 2011 03:01 AM PDT Last week we asked you which of Doctor Who's many loose ends you wanted answers to the most in the second half of Series 6. We had thousands of votes and now we have the results. 1. The Doctor's DeathUnsurprisingly, with 40% of the overall vote, the death of the Doctor in The Impossible Astronaut came out on top. Who killed the Doctor and why? Why does the Doctor willingly sacrifice himself? And just how is it all going to be resolved? Steven Moffat has a lot of work to do to give us a satisfying conclusion. | ||
| Torchwood: BBC responds to complaints Posted: 10 Aug 2011 02:24 AM PDT Under the BBC Editorial and General Complaints process the corporation aims to respond to formal complaints within 10 working days. BBC Response Last month the BBC confirmed that the UK versions of Episode Three had been slightly edited to remove some of the more graphic sexual images, both gay and straight, from the story. We have strict Editorial Guidelines which govern the content of our programmes, and Torchwood is no exception. These clearly state:"In all BBC output the portrayal of sex, or the exploration of sexual issues, should be editorially justified and treated with appropriate sensitivity. In post-watershed content, we must be able to justify the frank and realistic portrayal of sex and the exploration of themes and issues which some people might find offensive." Captain Jack Harkness is an established character in the series. The audience over the previous series of Torchwood have known him to be promiscuous and bi-sexual so we felt the content was justified in terms of the context and characters and would be within the expectations of regular viewers. We aim to depict relationships whether heterosexual or homosexual in an honest and realistic way. These scenes are not meant to cause offence. | ||

| Posted: 09 Aug 2011 10:24 PM PDT Everybody – except maybe BBC One – knows that the best TV series in history will return on 27th August, and BBC America can't stop teasing us. The latest promo poster promises the collision of past, present and future with the Doctor and the Ponds (let's include River in that now, shall we?) looking expectantly. There's something behind them too. Can't quite remember what though. And that's not all. It looks as if River is being split from the TARDIS team by a spark of electricity. Or could that be a crack…?
