Tough Times for Amy Pond

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 08:03 AM PDT

Married, given birth and now chasing after her kidnapped offspring (with her offspring), all while keeping the knowledge that her travelling companion will soon be struck down by an impossible astronaut – times have been hard for Amy Pond of late.

However Karen Gillan has promised fans there's not only a series of spectacular pay-offs for all this woe but even more to look forward to as we get ready for the second half of Series 6.

Unsurprisingly when it comes to the impending death of the Doctor Amy isn't about to let him go quietly into the night:

"I don't think she's willing to accept that's he's going to die. Amy has such a connection with the Doctor that goes right back to her childhood, so she's definitely not going to stand by and let him be killed without a fight."

Of course being the mother of River Song – a woman carrying with her the secret that one day she may strike down the Doctor- means Amy is constantly fighting off her maternal instincts in the absence of Melody:

"It's an interesting idea because Amy's maternal instincts are kicking in to play with a woman who is actually older than her! However, it's been brilliant exploring this new relationship dynamic with River Song. I also think the situation has pulled Amy and Rory closer together; they seem to have a stronger connection now."

But its not all angst and woe for Amy – there are also horrifying new monsters too:

"The dolls in Night Terrors are extremely freaky! They are really disturbing, especially when they were walking around on set! We've also got a monster called the Teselecta in Let's Kill Hitler which goes back in time to try and right the wrongs of the past."

Lets Kill Hitler airs Saturday 27th August on BBC 1.

Affectionate Digs at Doctor Who

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 06:53 AM PDT

SFX magazine have posted a new article on their website that details some of the funniest Doctor Who skits that can be viewed!

Contributions from 1999's Doctor Who night include some marvellous sketches from Mark Gatiss and David Walliams, including a brilliant send up where they play two obsessive fans who have kidnapped Peter Davison (played by the man himself!) and one alternate version of Doctor Who where Gatiss IS the Doctor.

Other treasures include The Misinformation guide, a candid look at the alternative history of Doctor Who that includes some very unfamiliar faces and a whole new concept for the series!

There's the Spike Milligan Dalek sketch, which depicts a Dalek coming home from a hard day's work for dinner with his wife. This includes some brilliant one liners.

Also in the mix is a comedy sketch produced by Reeltime pictures back in the 90's. It looks at an alternative behind the scenes genesis of Doctor Who and features one or two familiar faces including voice of the Daleks, Nicholas Briggs.

Head over to the website now and prepare to have your ribs tickled as you watch some of the funniest Doctor Who send ups that you could wish to!

Rory's Back for Series 7

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 12:39 AM PDT

So there's good news and mysterious news. The good news is that Arthur Darvill will be coming back to Doctor Who for its seventh series. All you fans of Rory Williams rejoice! The mysterious news is that he's not confirmed how involved in the show he will be, which further fuels the rumours that the character of Rory will be leaving the TARDIS as a full time occupant at the end of Series 6.

Talking to SFX magazine, the actor confirmed that he would be returning to Doctor Who in Series 7 but would not confirm the capacity or the amount of his involvement.

The time traveller's life has always been a difficult one for Rory, his fiancé stolen away in the night by the Doctor, then he's suddenly whisked to ancient Venice to battle fish monsters and tray and accept the fact that hiss missus fancies the Doctor. He's died so many times, lived for two thousand years as an Auton, seen the universe reset, had his wife replaced by a doppelganger and most recently had his new born baby stolen to be fashioned into a weapon to kill the Doctor. Many people would argue that any one of those events would warrant a long holiday but all in succession, that's going to need permanent retirement!

Arthur was quoted as saying:

"I will be coming back at some point… There is an involvement in some way."

That does sound a lot like he won't be around in a major capacity but in more of a Martha Jones or Captain Jack "pop in for an episode or two" scenario.

We'll just have to watch this space…

The Valeyard Judges: Let's Kill Hitler Prequel

Posted: 15 Aug 2011 11:24 PM PDT

Greetings lesser mortals, it is I, the Doctor's dark side personified (hang on, isn't that a spoiler?! -Ed). Quiet, human.

Living in a world where so much of Classic Who, and Series 23 in particular, is ignored by current so-called fans of the show I have found it necessary to find alternative means of employment.

Once whole galaxies trembled in my wake and empires fell and rose at my slightest whim. Once I was the ultimate destiny of the last of the Time Lords!

Now I'm a reviewer on Kasterborous.

But from this latest set back I shall rise once again from the shadow of my past self and crush the universe once again in the dark grasp of Gallifrey.

But for just now; a review.

Not the best of starts one must admit. Hard to say much about 2 minutes of footage where my so called better half doesn't say anything and just listens to Pond wittering on.

"Hi Doctor. I love you, Doctor. Please save my baby, Doctor. Me, me, me."

Where's the

"I'm sorry I gave birth to a weapon that'll kill you"?

No

"Thanks for raising an entire army to come and rescue me"?

Oh no, it's just all about her isn't it? I tell you; when I finally rise again she'll be my first victim. Damn ginger companions. And damn their partiality to ginger coloured drinks.

UK Date Confirmed; Now Breathe

Posted: 15 Aug 2011 09:27 PM PDT

The BBC has finally put Doctor Who fans out of their misery and confirmed that the second half of Series 6 will begin on 27 August 2011, although at present the time is yet to be confirmed.

Following the preview screening of Let's Kill Hitler at the BFI on Monday, the BBC Press Office has gone into overdrive as expected, releasing some teasing quotes from The Grand Moff himself.

"The rules have changed, and the game is deadlier than ever. Out in the universe, where the earthly rules of time and space do not apply, Amy and Rory know only too well that their baby daughter needs them. For Melody Pond is destined to become River Song, mysterious archaeologist and convicted murderer – the woman who killed the best man she ever knew…

"The Doctor leads Amy and Rory across centuries and galaxies in a desperate search for baby Melody, but a terrible and inescapable date looms large. At 5.02pm on 22nd April 2011, the Doctor will die. These are his last days, and the quest for Melody his final mission.

"The search will result in a crash landing in Thirties Berlin and will bring them face to face with the greatest war criminal of all time. And Hitler. Old friendships will be tested to their limits as the Doctor suffers the ultimate betrayal and learns a harsh lesson in the cruellest warfare of all.

So, UK fans can finally breathe, and clear a space in their diaries from August 27th through to October 1st!
